the wayfarer en bref

Just like the blog, but in mini. A manila folder for clippings, worn photographs, lost words and unlikely muses.

“Enlightenment is not separate from washing dishes or growing lettuce. To learn how to live each moment of our daily life in deep mindfulness and concentration is the practice.” http://nowyouknow.tumblr.com/post/115920826/enlightenment-is-not-separate-from-washing-dishes

Apr 12 2009: I’d like to help draw together several threads that are being discussed because of this video.

1 Meditation, notably but not exclusively Buddhist
2 Psychedelic drugs.
3 Psychology, id, ego and super ego.

So, 1) Meditators are trying to shut down the left hemisphere chatter to allow access to the sub-conscious in the right hemisphere. Objective, Nirvana and enlightenment. NB Mathieu Richard’s talk.
2) One only has to look at the work of Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert (AKA Ram Dass) and Terence McKenna to see they got to the same place as meditators using drugs. ALL of these three talk about a higher state of conscious perception and lectured for many years.
3) Enlightenment, induced by meditation, drugs or otherwise, produces an individual operating from the super ego, they care about the truth and everybody else. In a way they are modern shamen, guru’s & sages. They have ascended beyond the control of their ego. It still has needs but these are easily subordinated.
